The Flagship Recieves a “Platinum Pick” from Snowboard Magazine

Jeremy Jones 2 September 3 Comments

PRESS RELEASE:

Snowboard Magazine awards Jones Snowboards, The Flagship, a Platinum Pick for excellence in design.

“If you were going to trust anybody to design snowboarding’s premier big mountain snowboard, Jeremy Jones would be the wise pick.  The Flagship is snowboarding’s response to the most critical riding on the planet.  Using Magna-Traction, directional rocker and camber under foot, this board is more of a weapon than anything else.  It’s a weapon that’s going to keep you alive when others are bound to fail.  Designed with a longer-radius sidecut and shortened running length, the Flagship comes without a speed limit yet still manhandles turns in tight situations.

If you like getting booted off the local ski hill for going too fast or better yet, riding lines nowhere near a lift, this board is it.”

-Nate Deschenes, SNOWBOARD MAGAZINE.

Here’s a good look at the three bump, “Mellow” Magna-Traction.  It is three drawn out bumps, one bump between the feet and one at each foot.  It makes for a subtle but effective edge bite that you will only feel when the snow gets really hard and you are about to fall on your ass.

All the graphics are burned into the wood.  There is not a drop of ink on this snowboard.

The Flagship will be available in five sizes: 158, 161, 163W, 164, 168W.

Summer Shredding with Ralph Backstrom

Is it really almost September already?  What happened to the summer?  Here’s a little look back on my own summer…

Squaw shredding after it closed in the middle of May.  Some of the best conditions Squaw had all season!

Easter Sierra with Jeremy for the final Deeper mission of the season in late May.  Extremely sick snow, deep corn in some places, full on pow in others.  The Solution was on fire!

Some Squaw shredding in mid June gave me some dirty corn that was still really fun.

Tioga Pass for some sun-cup shredding in late June.  The first few hundred feet of cups was pretty fun, but after a thousand feet or so of them, I was beat!

Southern Hemi action in New Zealand for the World Heli Challenge.  A big, wet, warm storm came through and put a nice white ice layer down, making conditions extremely less than desirable for a competition.  It’s a good thing there’s so much else you can do down there; I had some great mountain biking and got some decent surfing in!

It’s just a couple more months until the snow starts falling in the Northern hemi, and I’m really looking forward to making some pow turns!

Jones Snowboards welcomes Mitch Tolderer to the European Team

Jeremy Jones 25 August 0 Comments

Jones Snowboards is proud to announce the addition of Mitch Tolderer to our European Team.

Tolderer’s lifestyle, attitude and big mountain abilities make him a perfect fit for Jones Snowboards as he has been a fixture on the podium of the world’s biggest freeride competitions and has recently led the splitboard movement in Europe. This past season he finished second in the Freeride World Tour Overall standings, opened up a ton of new terrain in his home country of Austria and made a movie about his adventures called Hike2Ride.

Sharing our same dedication to the unknown, Mitch focuses his life on the search for the next un-ridden wave or peak. Currently he is in the middle of a four month South American walk-about and just left the coast of Peru. He sent us this message on his way to the mountains:

“This week we will get our snowboard bag and all our mountain gear sent from Austria. We plan to go explore the Cordillera Blanca in the Peruvian Andes. Then we will be back to the ocean before we head up to the volcanoes in Ecuador this November.”  – Mitch

When Mitch picks up his board bag he’ll have a quiver of Jones Snowboards including a Flagship that he had the chance to test last winter in Verbier. Here’s a few thoughts from Mitch about his first day on the Flagship:

“The day after the Verbier Xtreme I hiked up the Bec de Rosses again to reach the mountain just behind. This smaller peak had looked so sweet the day before! Jeremy Jones had given me a 161 Flagship and I was really curious what this board he created would be like. Although I thought the 161 would seem ’small’ riding off-piste it felt really nice. After a few turns the board felt really smooth and familiar under my feet. I can’t wait to try the 164 flagship!” – Mitch

Look out for more of Tolderer on Jones Snowboards this winter. Meanwhile, check out Mitch’s blog for some notes from the road including this video of his latest surf adventure in Peru.
