Donner Pass is my backyard go to spot. The quick access to climbing in the summer, hiking in the fall and riding in the winter make it my most frequented mountains in the world. It is my mountain gym. Driving up the pass today I could not believe my eyes. The terrain was perfectly sculpted by the 6 feet of snow we had received last week. I was on my way to a different spot but my plans quickly changed. Normally the pass gets hammered by wind and it has been so long since I have seen it good that I have written the place off. So we went old school today and rode lines I have not touched in ten years. The knee to waist deep conditions made for one of my best days ever at Donner.

Jeremy sets the booter to the next pitch.

On to a different zone, Ryland Bell gets his pow slash on.

Jeremy spies a spine line.

And nails it perfect, including the air at the end.

6 FEET?! Coming from the Rockies, I can’t even relate. Riding in 2 feet of powder is epic enough. Can’t imagine making turns in 6 feet of snow. My guess is you just gotta go as steep as possible.

Dude in 6′+ you just gotta point it. Double J does just that. My boy Sheets and I were hiking and ripping Gnar at Mt. Ralston this same week. No joke. Deep Pow. I hate cliche’s but the first week of March was epic in Tahoe. That would be so sick to rail Donner. I suppose, that’s the reason 2xJ was there.

Damn.
Jim Griffin and I hiked those lines last January. The lake pic and the pic from the road are on my camera, yet I don’t know what happened to all that snow. It sure was not there 1/15 – 22, 2009. It’d be good to run in to you up there one day, J.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world.
