What a difference a year makes. Last season there was so much snow during the holidays that the mountain was closed for days at a time and we hardly snowboarded because the mountains were falling down all around us. This year there was very little snow but the whole mountain was open and you could do as many tram lapse as your legs could handle.
I am not sure if it is the low snow or the economy but the Tetons have been empty. Up high the riding has been good while down low it has been fast, firm and rocky. Being able to walk on the tram with out a line and access 4139 ft of vertical drop in 8.5 minutes made for a great early season tune up and the perfect testing grounds for my new boards.
Grand Targee 2PM on a Saturday. This is about as tracked out as this place gets. The locals claim Targee is the place freeriders go to retire because it never gets bumped out, it snows over 450 inches a year and it is rare to see more then 50 people riding the mountain.
Air Bags Save Lives. TGR lead guide Jim Conway wakes up the class room by pulling the rip cord at the annual TGR avi/first aid workshop.
Opening day of the Tram
All this terrain can be accessed with a series of short hikes from the tram.
Low tide, sharky and barreling. This is the Jackson Hole classic, “Once is Enough.”
This is the view from the classic entrance. The top was too rocky to ride but the chute was powder.
I opted for the alternate entrance.
We hit the center coulior. It was surreal being the only people out here and having the only tracks around.
This is the reason why. The way out was an hour of traversing threw thick bushes and rock fields. I do not think I went over 5mph but was dripping in sweet by the end.

that place looks sick kinda reminds me of the back side of alpine meadows what are you doing in tetons seirra is back and buet

I’m going to be very interested to see what kind of boards you’re producing. Will there be any women’s boards? Will they be availabe in Washington, or just on-line?
On another note, thanks for putting up the Vimeo of your Austrian friends splitboard adventures. I enjoyed it so much & it’s an inspiration & motivator for me.

Wonderful photo’s and I am also interested if you are going to be making are going to have women specific boards maybe even a split?! I had one in my quiver 3 years ago but it was 159 and heavy so I am using snow shoes for access which are great they allow one to get out of tough situations. Can’t wait to see the line Thanks for all your up dates!! and of course HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

jeremy -
scoped quite a bit of your blog and am super stoked and inspired by your adventures. we are a small crew from AK and decided we needed an exotic destination to expand our shred experience. we decided on turkey a couple months ago and we are actually a day away from arriving in istanbul. we picked turkey mainly cause the topography looked knar and with those kinds of elevation changes close to water it seems like they would have to have some seriously deep snow. i just found out that you had previously been to turkey and checked out your posts on it. i was wondering if you wouldnt mind pointing us in some directions that we might enjoy. we have our own transportation for 3 weeks so we would like to explore quite a bit, but mostly we want to focus and ride as much as possible. we are obviously not looking for as technical aspects as you frequently get after, but we each have a lot of AK backcountry experience and would like to nail down a few good lines. if you think your observations or experiences in turkey could benefit our little adventure we would sincerely appreciate anything you would like to share with us. thanks for being the man, and an inspiration to all of us.
shred everything and have fun.

-D/L Crew,
We were in the North East Corner of Turkey up two valleys and were only about 10 miles from the coast. It seemed like chains or 4wd would be good. The roads get smaller and smaller and eventually you can not make it any higher and have to start hiking. Seems like they get a lot of snow and the tree’s were great. Look for towns high in the mountains that have roads plowed to them.
Stoked for you guys!

Hi Jeremy,
I am an avid backcountry rider living in Terrace BC. What snow shoes do you recommend for climbimg steep chutes? I plan to use them when its too steep to skin and too soft to boot pack I found a plastic snow shoe called a Vert that looks perfect but the company does not answer their email. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Brad
